Clarence Samuel Miller

Clarence Samuel Miller passed away peacefully December 4 . Sam was born on April 11, 1934, in Hico to Isaac C. and Lena Garnet Miller .

He is also preceded by his wife, Carol Treadway Miller, brothers Ray, Ken, Tommy, Don and Ben Miller, sisters Elizabeth Miller, Jean Pierson, and Marietta Ewing Coleman. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Helen Winebrenner of Montgomery and sister-in-law Judy Miller of Ansted, children Cheryl (Chuck) Vance of South Charleston, Kevin of Oak Hill, David (Tina) of Jefferson Hills, PA, grandchildren Jennifer Miller of Oak Hill, Chris (Lara Gutierrez) Vance of Chicago, Briana (Justin) Harsany of Coraopolis, PA, Alexandra “Alex” Miller of Pittsburgh, PA, and Chase (Steffeny) Miller of Oak Hill, great-grandchildren, Cecilia, Archer and Parker Harsany and Henry Miller.

Sam was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was an Oak Hill Volunteer fireman for 21 years. After graduation from Nuttall High School, he briefly worked at Alloy and drove heavy machinery during the construction of the West Virginia Turnpike. He and his bride moved to Wilmington, DE where he worked at General Motors and then was a mechanic. After returning to WV, he owned Sam’s Pure Oil Station in the 60’s. He then worked as a salesman at Blackburn Ford, winning several sales awards from Ford. He operated Sam Miller Trucking which included being involved in construction of the New River Gorge Bridge and Rt. 19 thru the Summersville Area. Sam and Carol started the non-profit, Caring Hands. After the death of his mother in 1990 he took over care of the family farm in Hico where he won Conversation farm in 1995 .

The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to caregivers, Mary Blethen , Beverly Burnett, Cathy Canterbury, Becky Cook: neighbors Jeff, Randy, William and Sherry, Bruce and Ginger, Lionell and Angie; Access Health, Oak Hill Baptist and the crew of
Bob Evans.


Funeral Service will be 1:30 PM Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Oak Hill with Pastor Sam Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park Oak Hill.

Visitation for friends will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church.

The family asks that donations of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia 454 Cranberry Drive Beckley WV, 25801.
