Charles O. Zickafoose

Charles Omar Zickafoose, 87, of Beckwith, WV passed away on Monday, January 4, 2010 at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill. He was born on September 22, 1922 in Elverton, WV he was the son of the late Seguine and Birdie Mae Harless Zickafoose. Charles was a retired coal miner having worked for Peabody Coal. He was a member of the Cotton Hill Baptist Church, the U.M.W.A. and V.F.W. and was a graduate of Gauley Bridge High School. A US Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the Pacific Theater and in Korea and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. His wife, Helen C. Rose Zickafoose, a daughter, Rebecca Louise Nichols, seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter, Patti Dickinson and husband, Mac of Riverview, FL; sons, Mick Zickafoose and wife, Lisa of Beckwith, Dave Zickafoose and wife, Sharon of Lake Waccamaw, NC and Doug Zickafoose and wife, Lora of Hurricane; grandchildren, Stephanie Neal and Stephen Dickinson of Riverview, FL, Joshua Zickafoose of Princeton, Justin and Jared Zickafoose of Hurricane, Mike Zickafoose of Charleston, Nichole Zickafoose of Beckwith, Levi Zickafoose of Lake Waccamaw, NC and Chad Nichols of Page and great grandchildren, Zoe and Harlow Neal, Cade Dickinson, Allison Johnson and Brady Zickafoose, In keeping with his wishes, his body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
