Charles Edwin Skeens , 70, of Beckley, WV died on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV of cancer. Born October 17, 1940 at Montgomery, WV he was the son of Rachelle Brewer Skeens of Beckley and the late James Skeens. He was a retired coal miner. Charles was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the AEOP. He was a US Army veteran having served as a medic and with the Intelligence Division in Korea from 1962 to 1965. His wife, Betty Jo Holley Skeens preceded him in death. In addition to his mother he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Stover and husband, Danny of Beckley, son, Charles Slykerman and wife, Donna of Oklahoma, brother, James Skeens and wife, Kitty of Covington, VA, half-brothers, Scott Skeens and wife, Hope of Maple Fork and Greg Skeens of Maple Fork and a half-sister, Donna Skeens Harvey of Georgia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Caitlynn Clark, Chase Clark, Jocelynn Stover, Abigayle Stove and Danielle Stover, Suzanne Yancy and husband, Robert and Stephen Slykerman, two great grandchildren, Dylan Yancy and Dean Yancy, a great aunt and best friend, Betty Lue Wriston, two sisters-in-law, Teresa Young and husband, Timothy of Pax and Pam Phillips and husband, Terry of Norfolk, VA, brother-in-law, Tommy Holley and wife, Sandy of Beckley, nieces, Cheryl Skeens of Virginia, Tonya Hurley of Oak Hill, Tammy Adkins of Mount Hope, Traci Young of Beckley and Lindsey Wood of Oak Hill and nephews, Michael Skeens and wife, Lori of Virginia, Travis Phillips and wife, Mandy of Virginia and Jason Holley and Tommy Holley of Beckley. A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 3, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the New Prospect Baptist Church in Sweeneysburg with Rev. Gary Williams officiating.
