Charles Preston Miller Jr., 86, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, June 27, 2005 at Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born July 20, 1918 at McKendree Hospital, McKendree (Sewell), WV he was the son of the late Charles Preston Miller, Sr. and Zella Shuck Miller. Charlie was a graduate of Montgomery High School. He attended New River State in Montomgery and WVU in Morgantown. He was a pilot in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and retired as a Lt. Col. in the West Virginia National Guard where he was on the General's Staff. Charlie, with his partner N.M. Steen owned and operated Steen-Miller, Inc. an automobile agency in Oak Hill. Always active in his community, he was instrumental in raising funds to establish the WVIT-WVU Extension School in Oak Hill and raising funds for many civic projects. He was acitve in scouting and Little League and was a director for Merchants and Miners Bank, Oak Hill which was later Bank One, Beckley. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, the Shirley Donnelly Bible Class and the White Oak Country Club. Survivors include wife of 63 years, Carolyn Hoover Miller; two sons, C. Preston Miller, III and his wife, Clementine, of Scottsdale, AZ and William Hoover Miller and his wife, Cathy, of Kingwood, WV. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Charles P. Miller, IV and wife, Katie, of McMurray, PA, Dr. Ashley Miller Perrott and husband, James, of Winston-Salem, NC, Brett E. Miller of San Francisco, CA, Kristen Miller Heberlein and husband, Keith, of Atlanta, GA and Laura Miller Cross and husband, Craig, of Riverview, FL;and four great grandchildren, triplets Katelyn , Sarah and Charles P. Miller, V and Jude Heberlein of Atlanta, GA. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
