Charles "Jack" Hewitt

December 20, 1924 — March 18, 2005

Charles Ray "Jack" Hewitt,80, of Oak Hill, WV went to his heavenly home, Friday, March 18, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV. He was born December 20, 1924 in Minden, WV the son of the late Edward F. and Mildred Irene Dupler Hewitt. Of their three sons, Jack was the last survivor. Mr. Hewitt was employed by NR & P Coal Company in Minden, WV, where his jobs consisted of working in the car shop, repairing the railroad cars and in the carpenter force of the home department. In 1961, he and his wife, Jaunita, opened their first business, Jack's New and Used Furniture. The name was later changed to Oak Hill Furniture and is now Superior Furniture owned and operated by his son, Harold Hewitt. Jack loved exploring throughout his beautiful state of West Virginia and was a true Thurmond historian. He enjoyed watching the trains enter and leave the depot. Locals and tourists alike were privileged to hear the many interesting stories of steam engines, coal mines, and folklore of Thurmond as Jack shared his priceless memories with them. In 1975, at age 50, Charles "Jack Hewitt gave his heart and soul to the Lord. From that day on, he remained faithful and strived to God's will. He allowed God to use him as a tool to spread the Gospel and lead others to Christ. Jack began each day by putting the Lord first and allowing him to lead his life. He attended the Church of the Bible Covenant, Prosperity and the Gospel Tabernacle of Oak Hill. With open arms, the Lord will surely welcome him by saying "Thou Good and Faithful Servant". Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Juanita Dobbins Hewitt of Oak Hill; two sons, Harold Hewitt and wife, Winona, of Beckley and Darrell Hewitt and companion, Donna Daniels, Fayetteville. He had four grandchildren, Greg Hewitt and wife, Jennifer, of Fayetteville, Tracy Hewitt Meyer and husband, Chris, of Alexandria, VA, Heather Hewitt of Beckley and Laura Hewitt of Fayetteville. He had five Great-Grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill with the Rev. Alan Ledford officiating. His last rites will follow in the High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill. Friends and family may call one hour prior the service at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV.
