Charles L. Cool

Charles Lemon Cool, 86, of Mossy, WV died on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at his home following a short battle with cancer. Born July 31, 1918 at Diana, WV he was the son of the late John Cool and Rowena Fisher Cool-Townsend. He was the stepson of the late Okey Townsend. Mr. Cool was a retired crane operator for American Ship Building Company in Lorain, OH. He served in the US Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Boatswain's Mate 1st class. Charles spent his life caring for his wife and disabled son, John. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his son, John L. Cool; brother, Emmitt "Rab" Cool; sisters, Georgia Cool, Alice Sears, Anna Arthur, Rose King; and a half brother, Lorn Townsend.. Survivors include wife of 63 years , Maxine Cochran Cool; daughters, Charlotte Gray and husband, Ted of Mossy and Susan Hill and husband, John "Jack" of Oak Hill; five grandchildren, Tina Sumpter and husband, Jerry, of Mossy; Teddy "Chuck" Gray and wife, Teresa, of Mossy, Tammie Blankenship and Amy Blankenship of Morganton, NC and Kathy Thomas of Fayetteville; six great grandchildren, Ann Sumpter, Michael Taylor, Rebecca Taylor, Katelynn Thomas, Colby Gray and Cassiedy Bowles. He is also survived by a sister, Ida Higley of Titusville, FL; half sister, Louise Carpenter of Media, OH; half brother, Zane Gray "Sonny" Townsend of Diana; brother-in-law, Roy "Ronnie" Cochran and wife, Donna of Lorain, OH. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Friday, November 19, 2004, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Services will be on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at 1:00 pm at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Menefee officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110.
