Cecil B. Rakes

Cecil Ballard Rakes, 90, of Hilltop, WV died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Hilltop Center in Hilltop, WV. Born June 10, 1919 at Eccles, WV he was the son of the late John Posey and Fannie Grace Adkins Rakes. Mr. Rakes was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. His wife, Loie Pearl Holestine Rakes; daughter, Bettie McNeeley; sisters, Daisy Webb and Viola Rakes and brothers, Paul Rakes and Homer C. Rakes and a half-brother, James "Dusty" Miller preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Roop and husband, Leon of New Castle, Ind. and Patsy Hickey and husband, Dennis of Columbus, OH; three sons, John Rakes and wife, Lana of Harrisonburg, VA, David Rakes and wife, Marilyn of Litchfield, OH and Mike Rakes and wife, Tammy of Lakewood, OH; sisters, Pearl Bryan of Oak Hill, Hallie Kincaid of Oak Hill and Bessie Dean Dunn of Republic, OH and a brother, Charles "Tom" Rakes of Strasburg, OH. A son-in-law, Don McNeeley of North North Olmsted, OH, ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren also survive him. Services will be on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Robert Barley officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Sons and sons-in-laws will serve as pallbearers.
