Carrie Jean McGuffin Sumner, 84, of Grants, NM died on Monday, May 9, 2011. Born on August 25, 1926 in Thurmond, West Virgina she was a daughter of the late Claymus Wesley and Ethel Virginia Samples McGuffin. Carrie was retired from Levine' Department Store as the Manager. Her husband: Billy Sumner, son, Larry Wayne Sumner, four sisters, Joyce Ann McGuffin, Mary Sue Hash, Harriett V. Bishop, and Margaret E. “Maggie” Anderson and five brothers, John McGuffin, James Earl McGuffin, Glenn Franklin McGuffin, Thomas W. McGuffin, and Robert C. “Bobby” McGuffin preceded her in death. She is survived by her children: James Sumner and wife, Teresa of Odessa, TX, John Wesley Sumner of Aurora, CO, William Preston Sumner of Carlsbad, NM, Mary Sumner of Grants, NM, Sandra O'Neal and husband Aubrey of Grants, NM, and Carol Ballew of Grants, NM, brothers, Emory Wayne McGuffin of Oak Hill, WV, Richie McGuffin of Maryland, sister, Betty Campbell of Phoenix, AZ, 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. A memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Compassion Mortuary, 120 N. 3rd Street, Grants, New Mexico.
