Carolyn A. "Carrie" Hill

Carolyn Anita "Carrie" Hill, 82, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, February 19, 2007 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born January 25, 1925 at Oak Hill, WV she was the daughter of the late Claude R. and Mildred Haptonstall Hill. Ms. Hill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oak Hill, WV, where she was a member of the Mame Level Ladies Circle, past Elder, member of the adult choir and adult Sunday school class. Always active in the community, she held memberships in several organizations including the Fayette Historical Society, Fayette Study Club, Fayette Art League, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, the White Oak Country Club and the White Oak Chapter of the National Railway Society in which she was a charter member. She was very interested in the restoration and preservation of our local historic landmarks working tirelessly for both Contentment in Ansted and the White Oak Depot in Oak Hill. Carolyn Hill's teaching-painting education includes a bachelor's of arts degree from Hollins College, VA, master's of fine arts degree from Iowa State University and an additional two year's training at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC and the Inter-American University in San German, Puerto Rico. She taught art at all levels from kindergarten through college retiring from the Fayette County Board of Education. An accomplished artist in oils and watercolors, she had an appreciation for the beauty of West Virginia. It was that, along with portraiture, that she enjoyed painting. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Juan A. Faria, III and Fernando Claude Faria; a brother, C.R. "Bud" Hill, Jr. and a nephew, David V. Fox. Survivors include three grandchildren, Carolyn Faria, Juan J. Faria and Patricia Faria all of Ponce, Puerto Rico; brother, John H. Hill and wife, Frances of Costa Mesa, CA; sister, Millicent H. Fox of Chevy Chase, MD; sister-in-law, Cynthia A. "Pinny" Hill of Fayetteville, WV and by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Thursday, February 22, 2007, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill with Rev. Jim Musgrave officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. Brent Bragg, Juan J. Faria, John Fox, William Hill, Claude R. Hill and Spencer Hill will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 250 Central Avenue, Oak Hill, WV 25901.
