Carl R. Jewell

Carl R. Jewell, 81, of Beckley, WV died on Thursday, April 01, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born November 25, 1928 at Maynor, WV he was the son of the late Willie Carl and Barbara Tyree Jewell. He retired from Westmoreland Coal at Eccles. Carl was a devoted Christian. He was a member of the Wesleyan Chapel on Johnstown Road in Beckley where he served as a board member. He was a member of the UMWA, a board member of the Mount Olivet Camp Meeting, Madams Creek Road in Hinton and was an avid fisherman. One brother, Billy Gene Jewell and two sisters, Frances Vandall and Irma Rorrer preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth M. Delridge Jewell; one son, Donald R. Jewell and wife, Sheryl of Piney View; two daughters, Dolores A. Frye and husband, Roger of Maryville, TN and Donna M. Peters and friend, Dean Dickens of Charleston; one brother, James H. Jewell of Maple Fork and one sister, Irene Long of Sinks Grove. Six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a very close friend, Rev. Don Sparks, also survive him. Services will be on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. with Pastor John Hart officiating. Burial will be at Sam Davis Cemetery, Maple Fork. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Sunday, April 4, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Chris Jewell, Kevin Peters, Josh Peters, James Jewell, Tim Vicars and Dean Dickens will serve as pallbearers.
