Carl Elmer Bowling, 83, of Oak Hill, WV went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at his home. Born December 20, 1928 at Thurmond, WV he was the son of the late Hayward C. and Venia Lee Lilly Bowling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Velma Gay Criss Bowling and a brother, Frank Bowling. Survivors include his four children Dr. C. Gregory Bowling and wife Susan of Lake Charles, LA, David Bowling and wife Jennifer of Oak Hill, Debbie Bowling of Mullens, and Sherry Bowling of Ashland, OH; grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Stephen, Joshua, Samantha, and Bailey Bowling, and Susie Freeman; great-grandchildren Anna, Will, and David Freeman; brother Ralph Bowling and wife Mary of Woodburn, OR, and sisters Evelyn Harris of Oak Hill, Carol Ivey and husband “Buck” of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Barbara Meadows of Saluda, VA. Carl was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was the co-owner for Bowling's Market for 25 years in Oak Hill, and then ended his career as an employee of Lowe’s. He enjoyed serving as a member for the Oak Hill Civitans. Carl believed in loving his wife, working hard, and taking care of his family. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to New River Humane Society, P.O. Box 953, Fayetteville, WV 25840.
