Buster “Buck” Leon Mitchell, 79, of Flat Rock, Mich., and formerly of Harvey, WV died Sept. 11, 2010. Born October 8, 1930 in Fayette County, WV he was the son of the late Lawrence and Burndetta Rogers Mitchell. His beloved wife, Mary, brothers, Roger Dale, Fred, Charles, Dallas and Robert Mitchell and Buster’s loving pet and friend, Midget. All preceded him in death. He was a member of the military police in the U.S. Air Force during Korea and Vietnam. He owned and operated two barber shops, Buck’s Barber #1 & 2, in Taylor and Dearborn Heights. His hobbies included golfing, bowling and he was a loyal Detroit Tigers fan. Buck had lived in Summerlee, WV and loved the time he spent with family and friends at the Summerlee Reunion. Three words that sum up his life are: honest, strong and loyal. Surviving are three brothers, J.L. Mitchell, Denzil Mitchell and Donny Mitchell, five sisters, Norma McGorman, Brenda Boaz, Linda Taylor, Betty Hardesty and Dreama Naylor, and several nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. At the time of his death services were held at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Taylor, MI and Mr. Mitchell was entombed at the Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI. Family and friends will come together for a memorial service at 1:30 pm on Sunday August 7, 2011 at the Summerlee Presbyterian Church.
