Bob Calvin Mason

Bob Calvin Mason , 83, of Oak Hill, WV died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at his home. Born June 19, 1927 at Summerlee, WV he was the son of the late Lawrence Mitchell and Leona Pearl Mays Mason. He was a retired coal miner. Mr. Mason worked for the New River Coal Company 25 years at Summerlee and Lochgelly. He was a member of the UMWA District 29 and served on the District Executive Board for 15 years. He served one term as a West Virginia State Senator. He was a World War II US Army veteran. His first wife, Katharine "Kathy" Gunther Mason, brother, Mitchell "Jim" Mason and a granddaughter, Divine Saleh preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Berry Mason, two sons, Bob C. Mason, Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL and Thomas A. Mason of Oak Hill, two daughters, Rosemary Ellen Cody of Marietta, OH and Anna Louise Scruggs (Greg Riffey) of Rainelle and a sister, Juanita Saye of Oak Hill. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Douglas Mason, David Zocchi, Thomas Mason, Jr., Clint Mason and Christopher Scruggs, eight great grandchildren, stepchildren, Faith R. Hanshew of Charles Town and Joshua (Danielle) Handshew and daughter, Keira of Meadow Bridge. Graveside rites and committal service will be on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 3:30 P.M. at Bays Cemetery, Summerlee Road, Oak Hill with Pastor Robert James officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Doug Mason, Thomas Mason, Jr., Christopher Scruggs, David Zocchi, Clint Mason and Joshua Hanshew will serve as pallbearers.
