Billy James McKnight , 89, of Oak Hill, WV died on Sunday, March 08, 2015 at CAMC - Memorial Division in Charleston, WV.

Born August 08, 1925 at Coal Grove, OH he was the son of the late William and Hazel Holliday McKnight.

After graduating from Logan High School, Bill joined the U.S. Air Force, Aviation Cadets in 1943. After his military service he played professional baseball for the New York Yankees farm system.

Mr. McKnight was the retired co-owner of the Fayette Tribune, Montgomery Herald and Meadow River Post newspapers.

Always an avid outdoorsman and golfer, he held many records at White Oak Country Club and was club champion both at White Oak and in Florida where he and Margaret retired.

He was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, a Mason, a Kentucky Colonel, past member of the Oak Hill Civitan and enjoyed being a member of the Plateau Club.

Bill was married to his high school sweetheart Margaret Glazier McKnight for 56 1/2 years. She preceded him in death. on August 21, 2005.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted daughter Susan Woods and husband, John of Oak Hill; sister, Dorothy Steele of Knoxville, TN; brothers-in-law, Donald Glazier of South Charleston and Jack Glazier of Rochester, NY and Naples, FL; and a special cousin, Judge James O. Holliday of Hurricane.

Also surviving are nieces, Becky, Pam, Pat and Kim all of Knoxville, TN and Kim and Pam of Charleston and his special angel, Rosie Corley of Oak Hill.

In keeping with his wishes Mr. McKnight was cremated. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Oak Hill. with Dr. Charles Miller, Dr. Sharon Miller and Rev. Roy Gene Crist officiating Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. His cremains will be interred at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fayette Plateau Ministerial Association Food Pantry, 250 East Main Street, Oak Hill WV 25901
