Betty Alice Pugh

Betty Alice Perry Pugh, 77, of Oak Hill, WV went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill from complications due to a stroke. Born May 17, 1931 at Wharton, WV she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Perry, Sr. and Addie Bickford Perry. Betty attended the Greenbrier College for Women and was a graduate of Concord College. An English major, she received her B.S. in Education in 1966. She was employed by the Fayette County Board of Education as a teacher at Scarbro, Rosedale and Gatewood Elementary and Collins Middle Schools. She was a member of the Oak Hill Junior Women's Club, the Oak Hill Civic League and Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church. As the last surviving member of her immediate family she was preceded in death by a sister, LouAnna Perry Thomas and four brothers, John Wesley Perry, Jr., James Warden Perry, Howard Thurman Perry and William Richard Perry. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Garland Lee Pugh; one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and David Shumate of Roanoke, Va. and a grandson, John David Shumate. Services will be on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Church of the Brethren in Oak Hill with Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
