Betty Hodge Elam

December 20, 1928 — May 27, 2007

Betty Jean Hodge Elam, 78, of Hilltop, WV passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at her home following a short illness. Born December 20, 1928 at Dry Branch, WV she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Thelma Barnhart Smith. She was a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill, WV and a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded a grandson, James Kent Tate and one sister, Geneva Griffith. Survivors include one son, Michael Hodge of Ansted, WV; three daughters, Lola Tate and husband, Jim of Abingdon, VA, Joyce Miklos and fiancee', Bruce Keel of Stanaford; Anita Bushnell and husband,Chuck of Columbia, TN; four sisters, Delores Walker of Darlington, MD, Janet Brown of Alderson, Minabelle Crowl of Rosedale, MD, and Mary Payne and husband, Jim of Jacksonville, AL.; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia and to Dempsey Holsteid for his kindness. Service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jim Tate, Chuck Bushnell, Jim Payne, Michael Miklos, Jr. and Michael and Zachary Hodge.
