Betty L. Bailey

January 30, 1933 — August 21, 2005

Betty Louise Atha Bailey, 72, left the home of her son and daughter-in-law on Sweeneysburg Road to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 21, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born January 30, 1933 at Maynor, WV she was the daughter of the late Calvin Edgar (Ed) and Hettie Painter Atha. Betty lived most of her years on Sweeneysburg Road and was a long time member of the Maynor Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed and was talented at many crafts including painting, knitting, sewing, needle point, crocheting, quilting, gardening and many more. She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jack D. Bailey and an infant granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Bailey. Survivors include four sons, Warren Bailey and his wife, Mary who was Betty's special friend and caregiver, of Sweeneysburg, Road, Gary Bailey and wife, Susie, of Mount Hope, Jeffrey Bailey and his long time companion, Kim Bias, and her daughter and grandson, Samantha and Dylan of Maple Fork, Timothy Bailey and his wife, Sherri, of Columbus, OH; brother, Larry Atha and his wife, Ulla, and a sister, Dixie Atha all of Sweeneysburg Road; two grandsons, Matthew Bailey of Sweeneysburg Road and Derek Bailey of Columbus, OH; two granddauthers, Meagan and Cassie Bailey of Florida; two step-grandchildren, Bo and Ashley of Columbus, OH and one step-grandson, Sammy Dooley of Sweeneysburg Road. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends, a loving Church family and a special friend and cousin, Ann Smith. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern WV and extend a special thanks to Patty Evans who is a very special person. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Monday, August 22, 2005 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. Forrest Gray officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity WV.
