Bessie P. Sutphin

Bessie Pauline Cantley Sutphin , 94, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born August 30, 1915 at Sanger, WV she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Betty Wirt Cantley. She lived her early years in Sanger and later life in Oak Hill. Bessie was the wife of the late William A. Sutphin. A former employee of Mrs. Ford's Oak Hill Dress Shop, Mrs. Sutphin was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church where she attended the Donnelly Bible Class, the Stannard-Carr Circle and was a former member of the church choir. In addition to her parents and husband, two sons, William A. Sutphin, Jr. and Dennis Ray Sutphin; sister, Virginia Brenemen Shreve and numerous step sisters and step brothers preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Susan K. Johnson and husband, Randy of Lewisburg; daughters-in-law, Janet Sutphin of Kernersville, NC and Linda Sutphin of New Port Richie, FL; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a niece Janet Farra of Union City, OH and nephews, John Brenemen and family of Oak Hill , Jim Brenemen of Oak Hill , Leonard Brenemen and family of Alexandria, VA and Orville Shreve and family of Tennessee. Services will be on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill. Friends may call one-half hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in her name to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.
