Bernard Paul Gibson, Sr., 85, of Hilltop, WV died on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born July 18, 1925 at Alcott, WV he was the son of the late Charles Brack Gibson, Sr. and Clara Stottler Gibson Redman. He was a retired coal miner. Mr. Gibson was a member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of the U.M.W.A. and the Wildlife Turkey Federation. Bernard was a World War II US Army veteran having served with the 82nd Airborne. His first wife, Alta Faye Woods Gibson, infant daughter, Trina Lynn Gibson, son, Gregg Gibson, step-son, Gary Adkins, granddaughter, Nikki Fedukovich, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Myra Lou Shaver Gibson, two daughters, Diane Cottle and husband, Bob of Fayetteville and Pam Gibson of Richmond, VA, three sons, Bernard Paul Gibson, Jr. of Oak Hill, Leon Gibson of Oak Hill and Mark Gibson and wife, Tammy of Oak Hill, step-daughter, Kathy Sharp and husband, Bob of Martinsville, VA, step-son, Tony Adkins of Verona, VA, sister, Frances Bragg and husband, Fred of Fayetteville and his only surviving uncle, Calvin Stottler of Ames. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill with military graveside rites by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110. Friends may call at Tyree Funeral Home , Oak Hill on Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 1:00 PM until service time. Frank Bragg, Rocky Gibson, Josh Cottle, Frankie Bragg, Bobby Cottle and Bryant Davis will serve as pallbearers.
