Arvilla Williams Armentrout Roggan

Arvilla Jane Williams Armentrout Roggan , 90, of Scarbro, WV died on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born October 22, 1921 at Cirtsville, WV she was the daughter of the late Donley C. and Garnet Louise Gilliam Williams. Arvilla was one of the first people hired to work at the "Glass House" Dining Room on the WV Turnpike. She was a former employee of the Mary Frances Coal Company Store at Weirwood and the New River Company Store in Mount Hope. During World War II she worked at a defense plant in Elkton, MD. In the late 1950's she moved to Las Vegas and then returned to Beckley in 1999 where she lived out her final years. Her husband, Francis Jerome Roggan, son, Richard Williams, brother, Sidney "Jack" Williams and sister, Irma Janice "Jean" Morelli preceded her in death. Survivors include grandchildren, Alica Williams of Beckley and Richard Williams of Lorton, VA and a sister, Maxine "Mickey" Sweeney of Beckley. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Nathan, Logan and Brady Williams and Abigayle and Alexander Williams. A committal service will be on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Beckley with Rev. Bob Stoddard officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.
