Anna Fontana Payne

Our devoted wife, mother and sister, Anna Fontana Payne , 85, of Beckley, WV left this world for a better place on Thursday, August 08, 2013 at Heartland of Beckley where she had been a resident for six years. Born August 21, 1927 at Herndon, WV she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Maria Massara Fontana. Anna was a retired supervisor for Hills Department Store in Beckley. A graduate of Mount Hope High School, she lived most of her life in Mount Hope and was a member of the Mount Hope United Methodist Church. Anna's husband, Lester Payne preceded her in death in 1960. She was also preceded by six brothers, Lee Fontana, Mike Fontana, Pat Fontana, Nick Fontana, Thomas Fontana and Johnny Fontana and three sisters, Mary Benedetto, Josephine Pishner and Camilla Spadaro. Survivors include one daughter, Rita A. Schreiber and husband, Richard of Richmond, VA; one son, Theodore E. Payne and wife, Pamela of Morris Plains, NJ; one brother, James Fontana of Columbia, PA; three sisters, Esther Chamberlain of Vancouver, WA, Carolyn Troitino of Mount Hope and Eleanor Fontana of Mount Hope; three grandchildren, Catherine Schreiber, Alex Payne and wife, Mary and James Schreiber and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Payne was cremated. Her cremains will be interred with her husband Lester at High Lawn Memorial Park., Oak Hill, WV. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Richard C. Allen officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Floral tributes will be accepted however, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1601 Second Avenue, Charleston WV 25387.
