Andrew Edmund Wooten,Sr.,93, of Minden, WV died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill following a short illness. He was born March 8, 1911 at Scarbro, WV to Abraham Lincoln and Bertha Scurlock Wooten. He was a retired lab technician at ARH, Beckley in the Cardiac/Pulmonary Lab for 27 years, a retired fire boss with 25 years service with the New River and Pocahontas Coal Company at Minden and taught school at Minden for 2 years. He was a member of UMWA District 29, Secretary and Treasurer of Local #2959, an Eagle Scout leader at Minden and was on the board of directors of the Arbuckle Public Service District from 1986 until 2001. Andrew was a 1929 graduate of Oak Hill High School and graduated from Berea College in Berea, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jones Wooten, two daughters, Margaret Ellen Wooten James and Linda Louise Wyche and one son, Daniel Lee Wooten, Sr., sisters, Hazel Mitchell, Malinda Rakes, Mabel Epling, and Cora Morton and brothers, Howard Wooten, James Wooten and Arvel Wooten. Survivors include two sons, Andrew Edmund Wooten, Jr. of Holly Hills, FL, Thomas R. Wooten of Minden, one daughter, Sue Wooten Duda of Beckley, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Revs. Bill Menefee and Carlos Lewis officiating. A eulogy will given by Louis Wooten. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call Monday evening, Feb. 7, 2005 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David Byrce James, Thomas W. James III, George Andrew James, David Michael James, Oather Jones and Elmer Roles.
