Alexander E. "Alex" Easton

June 10, 1917 — March 24, 2011

Alexander Edwin "Alex" Easton , 93, of Oak Hill, WV entered into the presence of his Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hilltop, WV. Born June 10, 1917 at Minden, WV he was the son of the late Andrew E. Easton, Sr. and Anges Lambie Easton. Alex was a retired officer of Flat Top Insurance Company. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat operations in the Pacific. He always enjoyed being around people, never met a stranger, and was always willing to help others. Alex loved to tell countless stories of growing up in Minden and the surrounding area in that difficult era between the two world wars. He always made those times seem like and adventure. Mr. Easton was a longtime member of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee and also a member of Beckley Presbyterian where he served as elder and deacon. He was a member of the Oak Hill Lions Club. A thank you goes to the staff and doctors of Hilltop Center and to all other professional caregivers who served him so well. Sisters, Elizabeth Thompson, Nettie Bragg, Katherine "Kate" Bobbitt, Agnes Nelson, Margaret Ann Easton and Nellie Jane Easton and brothers, Robert Lambie Easton, and Andrew Easton, Jr. preceded him in death.. Survivors include sister, Ruth J. Easton of Oak Hill and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Kenneth Atkins officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
