Alex "Shinnie" Szuch, 88, of Mount Hope, WV died on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at his home. Born October 17, 1917 at Mount Hope, WV he was the son of the late James and Molly Demyan Szuch. He was retired from the General Services Administration-Maintenance for the Bureau of Mines. Mr. Szuch was a World War II US Army veteran having served in the Pacific Campaign. He was wounded in Saipan and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a life member of VFW Post #9927, Kettering, OH and a volunteer with the Mount Hope Fire Department for over 40 years. The family expresses much thanks for all the help from Hospice. As special thanks to Gail for helping Daddy with his final journey. His wife, Juanita Merritt Szuch preceded him in death. Survivors include four children,Alexis Wilkinson and husband, Stephen of Richmond, VA, Alex Szuch, II of Beckley, WV, Michael Szuch of Mount Hope, WV and Merry Douglas and husband, Bill of Kettering, OH; three stepchildren, Deloris Fields and husband, Glen of Richmond, VA, Hayes Fitzpatrick and wife, Evelyn of Albuquerque, MN and Robert Fitzpatrick and wife, Rochelle of Aiea, HI; one brother, Steve Szuch and wife, Eula of Mount Hope, WV; nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Thursday, October 12, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Graveside rites and committal will be on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity with Rev. Jessie Parker officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens., Prosperity WV
