Alan Bradford Wickline

Alan Bradford Wickline, known as “Butch” to his friends and family, age 80, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on September 19, 2024. He had the privilege of dying on his family farm, the same place he had been born. He was preceded in death by his parents Myles Wickline and Ethel Wickline Rodes (Michael) and his brother Michael Wickline.

Alan was born on December 31, 1943, in Gatewood, West Virginia. He attended Collins High School in Oak Hill, West Virginia, where he was president of the student body. He remained a supporter of the school throughout his life and took pride in being part of the alumni association.

One of the highlights of Alan’s life was when he married Kathryn Wickline (Williams), his high school sweetheart, on June 5, 1965. They were married for nearly 60 years and were blessed with three children, Andrew Wickline, Anna Munhall, and Amanda Wickline.

Alan graduated from West Virginia University in 1966 with a bachelor of science in civil engineering and became a professional engineer. Alan’s engineering career not only brought significant professional achievement, it also brought great friends and adventure. Alan was the Chief Engineer on the building of Mountaineer Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia and managed high-profile projects for the Saudi Aramco Oil Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where he lived with Kathryn and their children for 15 years.

Alan was a voracious reader, world traveler, proud West Virginian, avid baseball fan, and loyal West Virginia Mountaineer. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took special delight in giving each child a nickname. A hard worker his entire life, Alan was an excellent provider for his family and a steadying force for all. He could always be counted on to give solid advice.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Kathryn, Gatewood, West Virginia; son Andrew Wickline (Amanda), Gatewood, West Virginia; daughter Anna Munhall, Granville, Ohio; daughter Amanda Wickline (Todd Zimmerman), Powell, Ohio; grandchildren Katy Bird (Caleb), Patrick Munhall, William Munhall, Maryn Munhall, Luke Wickline, Emma Wickline, Ethan Rhodes, and C.J. Wickline; great grandchildren Adeline Bird, Samson Bird, Charlotte Bird and Max Bird; sister Karen Shannon (Jack); sister-in-law Cheryl Wickline; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
