Geneva A. Epperson

May 16, 1917 — February 9, 2007

Geneva Ann Smith Epperson, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division. Born May 16, 1917, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James and Maggie Whitaker Smith. Mrs. Epperson was a homemaker and retired operator for Marfrance Nursing Home. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Oak Hill, and attended Sewell Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Colbert Epperson. Survivors include a son, David Epperson of Oak Hill; two daughters, Betty Thomas of Oak Hill and Barbara Copen of Chesapeake, Va.; three brothers, James Smith Jr. of Alabama, Renford Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Tommy Eugene Smith of Indiana; two sisters, Susan Taylor of South Carolina and Martha Lemons of Greensboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Rueggy Copen, the Rev. Tom Underwood and Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Entombment will follow in Wallace Memorial Park Mausoleum, Clintonville. Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 162 Court St., Charleston, W.Va. 25301.
